Brighter Futures

Mission Statement

“We are passionately committed to create and provide a safe and caring place where we help each child to discover their GOD-given talents and their unique personal value. We will encourage every child, each day, to help them grow into a confident young adult who is ready to take their place in the world and make their meaningful contributions to their community.”

Brighter Futures was founded in March 2017 by Dr. Suzanne Salichs and Mr. John W. Jones. The original purpose of the organization was to provide a free Christian day program consisting of literacy, fitness, recreation, nutrition, and other educational activities for the children of Wagoner, Oklahoma.

The City of Wagoner has a 24% poverty rate coupled with other discerning socioeconomic data. Wagoner Public Schools operate on a 4-day school week – Tuesday through Friday. Our goal is to complement and enhance our local schools to provide the best possible educational outcomes for the children and families of our community. Brighter Futures is the only day program operating on Mondays in Wagoner.

In August 2017, we were offered the opportunity to move to a vacant public school. Brighter Futures entered into a five-year agreement with the Wagoner Public Schools who own the building and property. Brighter Futures uses the center at no cost for rent due to the agreement with Wagoner Public Schools. However, Brighter Futures provides in-kind volunteer hours and is responsible for all building and property maintenance, supplies, and operations.

To date, we have served over 400 school-aged children and their families. Over 200 volunteers have provided over 60,000 hours of their time and talents to serving the children and families at the center.

“Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you’re making their destiny not brighter, but darker.” C.S. Lewis
